A multi-source agreement (MSA) is an agreement between multiple manufacturers which strictly defines the operating characteristics of a specific group of products. Such agreements enable manufacturers to build products which are interoperable or compatible across different vendors. Where we state that Edgeware products are MSA compliant this means that they conform to the specifications defined by the MSA agreement.

The CE marking is a manufacturer’s declaration that the product meets the requirements of the applicable EC directives. Officially, “CE” is an abbreviation of Conformité Européenne meaning “European conformity”. All Edgeware products are CE marked.

The FCC Declaration of Conformity or the FCC label or the FCC mark is a certification mark employed on electronic products manufactured or sold in the United States which certifies that the electromagnetic interference from the device is under limits approved by the Federal Communications Commission. All Edgeware transceivers and cables are FCC compliant.

RoHS is the acronym for Restriction of Hazardous Substances. RoHS, also known as Directive 2002/95/EC, originated in the European Union and restricts the use of specific hazardous materials found in electrical and electronic products. All Edgeware products are RoHs compliant.

The United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) is the sole national accreditation body recognised by the British Government to assess the competence of organisations that provide certification, testing, inspection and calibration services. We use the UKAS logo to illustrate that Edgware transceivers have passed testing in UKAS accredited laboratories and meet international laser safety standard IEC EN 60825-1:2014.

Yes, Edgeware products are FDA registered and complaint to laser safety Class 1 21CFR1040.10 LN#50 6/07.

If you know the manufacturers part code for the product you require then the quickest way is to use the “search by code” link on the homepage. If you still don’t find a suitable product then it may be that it is not a standard part code and in this situation you should make a bespoke enquiry.

Edgeware transceivers ship in either single or multi-pack (depending on type). If you require only single pack for logistical reasons please ensure you inform your point of purchase. Both single and multi-packs ship in an anti-static clamshell enclosed in a branded sleeve.

A bespoke product is one that has been designed and manufactured to meet your precise specifications. This is often required when that specification does not exist as a standard part code within the range of transceivers offered by the broad line manufacturer of the switch you are running for example. Manufacturers do not attempt to produce every possible variant for every available transceiver. They only produce the best-selling models. Edgeware fill in these gaps in the range to give our customers the solutions they need in their specific applications.

No. It is illegal for the manufacturer to invalidate the warranty. Legal precedent was set by the Magnuson-Moss act in response to widespread misuse of warranties by merchants. The act stipulates that “warrantors cannot require that only branded parts be used with the product in order to retain the warranty”. An overview of the act itself can be found here.

The manufacturers want to tie you in to buying their branded components as it is extremely lucrative for them to do so. Despite what individual representative’s may claim the correct position can be identified on the manufacturer’s website. Below are two examples to illustrate this:

To summarise, the manufacturer can only deny to warrant a host device if the third party component that has been installed has caused the item concerned to fail. There is an extremely low risk of this occurring with the use of external components such as transceivers. Especially, when they are built to conform to the industry agreed specifications laid out by the manufacturers themselves in their multi-source agreements!
